Michael D. Schafer, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist. He has obtained the Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders from the American Psychological Association, College of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Schafer earned his Bachelor's Degree from Ohio Northern University and his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Dayton where he majored in Social Agency Counseling.

 

In 1995 he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Clinical Psychology from The Union Institute. He was a full partner in the psychological practice of Applied Psychological Services from 1996 to 2006. He served as Director of Counseling from 2006 to 2018 at Ohio Northern University.

Dr. Schafer also served as the consulting psychologist for the W.O.R.T.H Center; a community based correctional facility in Lima where he worked for 17 years. He has extensive experience in the chemical dependency field, working in inpatient, day-treatment, and outpatient settings.

He has conducted numerous employee education and supervisory training sessions for businesses and industries who have implemented drug free work place initiatives throughout Northwest Ohio. He also previously served as the Committee Chair of the OPA Colleague Assistance Program.
